Chernobyl Children’s Trust in Ireland consists entirely of volunteers. We believe in the power of volunteerism and place a high regard on those who give freely of their time for the betterment of others and we firmly believe in the ability of committed people who seek to promote good and improve human quality of life.

Additional volunteer support is essential to the work that we do both in Belarus and at home. We need people with various skills. We would welcome your inquiry on how you could help. Some of the tasks with which we need help in Ireland are collecting, sorting and loading humanitarian aid, fundraising, administrative support and hosting children in your home. We also need volunteers for Belarus to help with special needs children. If you are interested in any of the above or have other ideas as to how to apply your skills in helping us reach our charitable objectives, please contact us.

(Please note all volunteers must undergo vetting procedures)

Ways to help as a volunteer

  • Volunteer as a Host Family

Open your home for a recuperative holiday for children from Chernobyl-affected and disadvantaged areas of Belarus. Each summer we bring children to Ireland to stay with host families for either 2 or 4 weeks from disadvantaged areas of Belarus.

  • Collect Humanitarian Aid

The poorest in society in Belarus need good quality clothes, baby nappies, adult incontinence wear, duvets, blankets.

  • Help sorting & loading Humanitarian Aid

Before each humanitarian trip we need help sorting, boxing, weighing and loading the aid onto trucks.

  • Volunteering abroad at Holiday Camps for Special Kidz!

Each year, dozens of volunteers from Ireland travel to Belarus with us to help support our programmes and the families and children we work with. We’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in volunteering with us overseas. This is a wonderful way to engage directly with very special children. The volunteers travel in a group from Ireland to spend at least one week living and working in a respite centre in Belarus. Volunteers provide care and entertainment for profoundly disabled children and young adults in a supervised setting.  This gives a little respite for their parents also so that they too can have a little holiday from the difficulties and stresses of providing round the clock care. This is a hugely successful programme and popular both with the volunteers that travel to Belarus and very importantly, the families of the children being cared for. This is a challenging but hugely rewarding experience! Volunteers who have previous experience of working with children with disabilities are especially welcome; but the most important traits of volunteers for this role are energy, enthusiasm and ability to work as part of a team. Volunteers fundraise in advance to cover associated costs.

  • medicalNursing/Medical Volunteers:

We send volunteer medical professionals from Ireland to assist in the caring of children in our Belarusian home care programme for seriously-ill and profoundly disabled Children. Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Physical therapists, O.Ts and other qualified personnel, volunteer their time to travel for periods of one week at various times of year. All arrangements are made by Chernobyl Children’s Trust. Volunteers are asked to cover associated costs where possible. Proof of qualification is necessary in order to meet Belarusian regulations.

We’d love to hear from you
