Groups Familiarisation — September 09

Submitted on September 27th, 2009 by Administrator

Two back to back trips for group familiarisation were organised to Belarus in September and the level of enthusiasm and positive feedback for both trips was immense!

The idea was to bring members of the various committees to Belarus to see first  hand, the Belarus of today and the work being done on the ground  by  Chernobyl Children’s Trust. Ten members of groups visited Belarus in addition to Louise Doyle, the Dental Nursing co-ordinator/tutor at two colleges.  Louise hopes to encourage her students to raise awareness and funds for the ‘Trust’. Another important aspect was for Group committees to be able to see for themselves where the children come from that arrive here for R&R as part of our Children’s programme.  This was particularly enlightening as those present were astonished at the difficult living conditions and levels of poverty that is reality for these children every day!  It certainly reinforced the commitment to this important programme and the trip also enabled individual families to be helped in very practical ways.  Highlights of the trip included visits to the two holiday camps organised by the Trust for the children of the ‘White  Dove  over  Chernobyl’ programme.
