About us

Child on wallChernobyl Children’s Trust was established as an Irish charity on 15th September 2006 by a group of volunteers to meet the needs of children and families most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The ‘Trust’ is an entirely voluntary organisation and this enables maximum donor value by directing funds to exactly where they are most needed. We believe in a partnership approach, working as equals with Belarusian agencies and organisations to implement programmes. Indeed, one of our key strengths is our extensive network of local organizations and contacts on the ground throughout Belarus enabling the most appropriate programmes to be undertaken always. We believe in the power of volunteerism and place a high regard on those who give freely of their time for the betterment of others and we firmly believe in the ability of committed volunteers to achieve outstanding results!

Structure: The ‘Trust’ is a democratic organization with an annually elected voluntary board of directors generally from diverse backgrounds with years of experience working on the Chernobyl issue. There are a number of affiliated Groups in various parts of Ireland that primarily organize Children’s holidays at Christmas and Summer time in addition to supporting the core Trust programmes. This coupled to a broad spectrum of skilled volunteers, allows the organisation to take on, and successfully deliver, a range of programmes and projects for the relief of sickness, the promotion of health and community development and the relief of poverty amongst children, their families and their communities, across disadvantaged areas of Belarus.

Chernobyl Children’s Trust continues to build futures for Children suffering the consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster.
